Evaluation of Right Ventricular Function by Tissue Doppler Echocardiography in Asthmatic Children
Authors
Abstract:
BackgroundAsthma is the most chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in children and asthmatic patients can experience cardiac dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension and finally cor pulmonale later in life. We aimed to investigate Right Ventricular (RV) functions in asthmatic children by conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDE).Materials and Methods Pulmonary function tests, conventional and TDE examinations were performed on 42 asthmatic and 42 age- and gender matched healthy controls subjects (n=42).Results Compared with healthy children the RV wall was statistically thicker among asthmatic patients (P= 0.01). Conventional echocardiography had not significant difference between cases and controls, but TDE had significant difference between these two groups. Peak E’ velocity, A’ velocity, E’/A’ ratio and S’ in lateral and medial sites of tricuspid annulus valve, were significantly differ from control group in our patients (P

full textThe influence of Asthma on Right Ventricular Systolic and Diastolic Function in Children according to Tissue Doppler Echocardiography
Introduction:Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory condition affecting the lower airways among children. Asthma may influence right ventricular (RV) function and patients may develop right ventricular hypertrophy, pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale. The main objective of this study is to determine RV dysfunction in asymptomatic asthmatic children as detected by ti...
full textEvaluation of Left Ventricular Diastolic Function by Echocardiography with Tissue Doppler in Systemic Sclerosis
BACKGROUND Systemic sclerosis (SS) is a connective tissue abnormality characterized by fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Cardiac involvement with consequent myocardial dysfunction in SS is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVE To investigate the left ventricular (LV) diastolic function in patients with SS and preserved systolic function. METHODS Patients with ...
full textEvaluation of left and right ventricular functions using conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
BACKGROUND The aim of the study was the evaluation of the effects of glycemic control in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes on cardiac functions. METHODS Diabetic patients were divided into two groups as well-controlled and poorly controlled patients. All patients underwent M-mode, two-dimensions (2D), pulsed wave (PW) Doppler, and tissue Doppler (TDI) echocardiography to evaluate ...
full textRight ventricular function assessment using tissue Doppler imaging and speckle tracking echocardiography
Modern echocardiographic techniques, i.e. tissue Doppler imaging and speckle tracking echocardiography, allow for an assessment of global and regional right ventricular function. The right ventricular myocardial performance index and tricuspid annulus motion are used in the assessment of global right ventricular function, whereas duration of the cardiac cycle phases and myocardial velocities ar...
full textRight ventricular function by strain echocardiography.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Right ventricular (RV) function is an independent determinant of prognosis in a number of pathologies, but its accurate quantification by echocardiography remains a challenge. With the evolving clinical utility of RV strain and strain imaging, several studies have used it to investigate normal and pathologic conditions. However, marked shape adaptations of the RV and the wide ...
